February 27, 2018

  • Are you in need of Service Learning hours?  Would you like to make a difference?  Volunteers are needed for the Annual Sou'rSundae Event on Saturday, March 17th.  Registration by Friday, March 9.  Please see Mrs. Flynn in Student Services if you are interested in volunteering at this event.
  • Softball tryouts will be this Thursday and Friday, March 1st and 2nd.  All 9th and 10th graders should come to the main gym from 2:30 - 4:00 and the 11th and 12th graders will tryout from 4:00 - 5:30.  Catchers and pitchers will stay until 6:00.

  • The meeting for the New York City dance trip is tonight, Monday, at 6:30 pm in the media center.
  • Registration for AP exams opens on Thursday, March 1.  Students received registration instructions through their AP teachers.  They are also on the school's website and your Naviance homepage.  If you have questions, see Dr. Kiehl in room 109.
  • If you applied for Intern/Mentor and did not sign up for an interview, this is a reminder to do so ASAP.  Interviews end on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

  • Reminder that Social Studies tutoring is being held today after school in room 103.
  • The first meeting of Mt. Hebron's fishing club will be Friday, Feb. 23, right after school in room 001.
  • Ready to get your game on?  Remember to come out and show Mt. Hebron your skills in Super Smash Brothers and FIFA at our bi-annual tournament.  Light refreshments are provided with the $5.00 admission and additional drinks and pizza will be available for purchase.  See you this Friday, after school, in room 003!

  • The SAT PREP class that was scheduled to meet today, Tuesday, Feb. 20, has been CANCELLED.  The course will now begin on Thursday, Feb. 22, with English in room 231.  Today's class will NOT be made up.
  • Best Buddies will host their annual movie night this Friday, Feb. 23 in the auditorium.  The movie is "Despicable Me 3".  Tickets are $5.00 at the dorr and includes a bag of popcorn.  Concessions will also be available.  The doors open at 6 pm, movie starts at 6:15.  Come join us for a fun evening with your friends!
  • Theatre Tech. is now meeting every day after school starting at 2:30 pm.  If you want to be crew on the spring musical, show up to make the magic happen.
  • What do you want to be when you grow up?  A teacher?  A professor?  A coach? A guidance counselor?  A principal?  A superintendent?  If any of these apply to you, come to the Future Educators of American/Educators Rising club meeting tomorrow, Wed., Feb. 21 in room 107 during Viking time.  We are discussing important upcoming events and amazing opportunities.  See you during Viking time on Feb. 21 in room 107!
  • The Howard County Arts Council is once again seeking Camp Assts. and Camp Volunteers for its 2018 Visual and Performing Arts summer camp.  The camp runs one week sessions for children grades K-7 from June 25 - August 24.  If you are interested, please see Ms. Flynn in Student Services for more information.

  • Do you love to sing, dance, play an instrument, recite poetry or speech?  Showcase your BEST at the Art Club Coffeehouse - an event with a relaxed atmosphere where talent is showcased and coffee and other treats are provided.  Auditions are this Thursday, February 15, from 2:15 - 4 pm in room 121.

  • Anyone interested in trying out for the tennis team this spring should play to go to room 235 during Viking Time this week, Feb. 14.
  • All 9th and 10th grade boys interested in playing JV lacrosse this spring, should attend a meeting during Viking Time, this week, Feb. 14 in room 114.
  • The next Oyster Gardening will be this Saturday, Feb. 17.  Meet at the high school at 12:45, leave at 1:00 pm.  Wear boots and bring work gloves.
  • Hey Hebron, did you want to play a spring sport?  Baseball, Lacrosse, Softball, Outdoor Track and Field, Tennis, Allied Softball?  If so, don't miss Spring Sports Sign-ups next Wednesday, Feb. 21 from 4:00 - 5:30 pm in the cafeteria.  Bring all of your eligibility paperwork with you.  You must be academically eligible based on your 2nd quarter report card, no more than 1 "E" grade and a GPA of 2.0 or great; a physical exam dated after April 1, 2017, a parent permission form listing your health insurance, a copy of a recent BGE, water or land line phone bill, a copy of your birth certificate and a completed and signed Sudden Cardiac arrest form.  If you played a fall or winter sport, all you need to bring to sign ups is a copy of your 2nd quarter report and a new parent permission form.  See Ms. Prevosto with any questions.  All paperwork will be on a table outside the cafeteria starting tomorrow.

  • Key Club is selling candy grams and cupcakes for Valentine's Day, during all lunch shifts today through next Tuesday, Feb. 13.  If you would like to thank a teacher, a friend or your significant other on this special day, then get them a Candy gram.  You can also write a message and send a candy gram anonymously.
  • All students enrolled in an AP class should have received an AP bulletin with registration instructions attached.  If you did not receive this last week from one of your AP teachers, please see Dr. Kiehl in room 109.
  • The MHHS Theatre department is seeking a graphic for the upcoming spring musical production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.  We are looking for a design that captures the fun of the show as well as the family friendliness of this classic Biblical story.  Students interested should see Mr. Barker for a copy of the script to read.  See Mr. Barker or Mr. Sankey for further details.    Designs should fill 75 % of an 11 x 17 sheet of paper.  Do not include any text.  Both a Black/White outline of the graphic and a full color version must be submitted.  Designs will be used for poster, postcards, and social media promotions.
    • Designs will be accepted starting today and are due to Mr. Barker no later than Thursday, Feb. 15.  The winning design will receive $25.00.  Don't wait, get sketching today!
  • Please congratulate the Mount Hebron Lancers for their 1st place win in Kick dance at their dance competition this past Saturday at C. H. Flowers High School.

  • Also please congratulate captains Gretta Zinski for her 2nd place as Captain for Lyrical Dance and Audrey Hill for her 1st place as Captain for Kick Dance.

  • Shakespeare Troupe - We will meet after school to celebrate our success at the Maryland Thespians Festival.  We will until 4 pm today.
  • Attn. Theatre Techs:  We will have a special tech meeting today and tomorrow, Friday, immediately after school until 5 pm to get ready for our big tech day on Saturday from 9 am - 1 pm.  Any student interested in working on the spring musical should attend.
  • A reminder to all theatre students that your Hamlett field trip permission slips are now due.  Please turn them into Mr. Barker by tomorrow, Friday.
  • Hebron:  Come out and support your Viking Dance team this Saturday from 4 pm - 9 pm at their first competition at Flowers High School in Prince George's County.  Watch your award-winning Lancers compete in Pom, Kick, and Lyrical styles of dance to bring home honors.
  • Hebron, do you know what this Saturday is?  It is a Trifecta of events that you will not want to miss . . . A Girls and Boys Varsity Basketball Doubleheader at Centennial High School, Girls at 5:00 pm, Boys at 7:30 pm . . . It's the Howard County Women's Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, where they will induct two Hebron Alumni, Megan Bosica and Jill Marple . . .AND it's a white-out SO WEAR YOU NEW   Hebron T-shirt to show your Hebron pride and support Oakland Mills Alumni, Larry Aaron, who was shot at a New Year's Eve party, and is now paralyzed.  All high schools in Howard County are collecting money this Friday and Saturday for Larry and his family to help with Larry's medical bills, so let's collect the most money in Howard County this Saturday night.
